cork-dublin-limerick-cork

semalam, driving-day for sayang since he had to drive from cork to dublin which took about 3 hours, and then to limerick, another 2 1/2 hours, and after that heading to cork which another 1 and 1/2 hours was spent on the road before reaching home.

we went to the Dublin for the sole reason to visit Afnan to wish him his very first birthday. it was a cold day. very very cold day indeed. all the way to Dublin, we could see frost everywhere, and the road seemed icy at some places, and when we almost near to Naas, the mist was everywhere, made the day cooler and darker without any glimpse of sun penetrated through the mist.sejuk...

teringat 2 days after Afnan was born, sejuk sgt hari tu.hari Afnan dikebumikan. hari tu, dlm sedih yg menyayat hati, sejuknya memang sampai menggigil tulang hitam. exactly like yesterday. Afnan was a winter boy. maybe he likes being in cold. i dont know. can only guess what he likes for i was with him for only 2 days after he was born plus 40 weeks and 6 days when he stayed in my womb.such a short stay afnan kat dunia ni ngan ibu. the rest, ibu hanya mampu tgk kubur afnan sahaja.

it's a few days over a year now. afnan pon dah ramai kawan2 utk main. dalam setahun Afnan, macam2 jadi.

Ibu selalu berdoa agar sebelum birthday Afnan, ibu mengandungkan adik Afnan. Alhamdulillah...rezeki Afnan dapat adik tahun depan. afnan doakan ibu ye sayang. doakan adik afnan sihat2 selalu. ibu sayang dua dua...

anyway, before balik ke cork, kami singgah ke Kildare Village. sebetulnya nak survey harga tefal cookware berapa, but since xde offer, x bersemangat sgt nak beli yg tefal+lain2...

sebelum balik cork, singgah kat Limerick umah Mas nak solat jama' sat. lepas tu, singgah Regional Hospital melawat Kak Kin yg kene post-partum septicaemia a few days after deliver her 4th baby. sian kak kin and baby Hamdan. harap2 sangat 2-2 cepat sihat nanti.

borak2 dgn mas dan kak aini malam tu. seronok main ngan Aisyah. Sarah pon dh kurang sket stranger anxiety.seronok. boleh pegang2 die.kalau dulu, pegang sket dah menangis.

Malam tu, syg insisted to go home jugak even though Mas and Kak Aini convinced him that it will be dangerous driving in this cold weather as the read maybe icy. but being him,die nak jugak balik. memang suspect die nak buat sthg je bile balik umah ni, sbb kalau x, die xdelah determine sgt nak balik umah dlm this weather.

haha...my guess was right. we reached home, and he went straight to his xbox 360. main bola!!patutla...bersemangat nak balik rumah, rupanya ada agenda! muahaha...
sanggup drive jauh2 plus main bola sampai x tido semalaman sbb takut kempunan. mase weekend ni la die nak main lama2. isnin ni dah oncall...

haha...main la sayang. main sampai puas....

malas nak cakap pape...muahaha...

Thai Salmon Fish Cakes

Thai Salmon Fish Cakes

Big, exotic flavors in perfect, tiny packages...

• Omega-3
• Ready in 30 minutes
• Family favourite
• Dinner party

Makes over 20 fish cakes
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes (you'll need to cook them in batches!)

Ingredients:

1 x 418g can of John West wild red salmon, drained
1 large bunch fresh coriander
2 red chilli's, deseeded and roughly chopped
4 - 5 tbsp fresh breadcrumbs
1 tbsp fish sauce
1egg
flour for dusting
sunflower oil for frying
extra chilli and coriander leaves for garnish
salt and pepper

Method:

1.Throw the salmon, coriander, chilli, breadcrumbs and fish sauce into a food processor and pulse on and off until it is all well chopped, mixed, and quite firm.
2.Add a few extra breadcrumbs if it looks too gloopy. Check the seasoning add salt and pepper if necessary.
3.Make the mixture into balls about the size of a large walnut, then just squash them slightly. Chill for 15 minutes.
4.To cook: dust the fish cakes with a little flour. Then fry them in a little sunflower oil for 1 or 2 minutes on each side or until lightly browned and nice and hot. Unless you have a really massive frying pan, you'll need to do them in batches. Keep them warm as you go...
5.Arrange on plates with a garnish of sprigs of coriander and chillis.

*might try on this one too. *

Fudgy Chocolate Brownies

This fudge like brownie is rich but very tasty! I like to bake them, then leave in the fridge overnight for that lovely fudgy texture. I like to eat them on their own or serve it with vanilla ice cream and berries.

ingredients

375g butter
375g of the best dark chocolate you can afford
225g plain flour
1 tsp salt
6 eggs
1 tsp vanilla essence
500g caster sugar
300g walnuts (optional)

preparation method

1. Preheat oven to 170 degrees C and lightly grease or line a 20cm square casserole or baking tray.
2. Place butter and chocolate in a heat resistant bowl in microwave. Melt for 1 or 2 minutes, checking regularly until melted. (You could also do this in a bowl over hot water).
3. Mix together flour and salt.
4. Then beat the eggs and vanilla together and add the sugar.
5. Add the chocolate mixture to the rest of the ingredients. If you adding walnuts, fold them into the mixture also. Pour into the baking tray.
6. Pop in the centre of the oven and cook for 40 minutes.
7. Once cooked leave to rest for 10-15 minutes before serving with ice cream. For a fudgy texture, leave it in the fridge overnight.

*thinking of trying baking brownies today.hopefully menjadi ;p*

I.N.T.O

(minta maaf atas bahasa melayu yg sgt formal. hehe...praktis bahasa melayu ibunda la katakan ;p)

It's positive!!!

today, after having a long sound sleep (slept from 9pm till 5.30 am, had bath and solat subuh, and continued the sleep until 9am), I suddenly woke up after hubby whispered into my ears that he wanted me to get prepared to go to the city with him. we had been planning to go there together for some time now, but there is always 'aral melintang', either he or me was tired or asleep, or hubby planned to go alone but eventually did not go. so, today was the day we really hoped that we both make it together...

it took me a while before i started to make way to the bathroom. with an impulse and with no concrete reason why, i took a pregnancy test strip with me going to the toilet. i did the test, and to my xcitement, it was 2 lines. TWO LINES!!!i could not believe it.

so, i went out and headed to the living room, took another pregnancy test, Boots-made, this one is much expensive that the first test kit, and plunged it to the urine. and again, it showed positive as the result. i still could not believe it.
hubby was in the living room that particular time, and i went to him. showed him the tests and he convinced me that they were both positive.

were they real positive?still could not believe it. i remembered i did the same test last 2 weeks but it turned out as negative. was i dreaming??

unsatisfied with results, i bought another tests in the city while we were there. one is 'clear blue test', the digital one, and another is bought from 2 euro city.after reaching home, and i got the cheaper one tested. it was again TWO LINES!!!
for the clear blue test, i tested it the next morning after having few hours sleep. it says that early morning urine is the best to test for result. and again, it showed that i'm pregnant 3+ weeks.

Alhamdulillah...

until now, when hubby asked y did i do the first test today, i still could not find the reason. nak kata, ade simptom pregnant, x jugak. entah...my instinct kot...tiba2 je nak try. kenapa ek?Allah bagi gerak hati...

dalam hati, takutnye ya Allah...selamatkan anak aku dr segala bahaya. selamatkan anak aku ya Allah. takut kalau jd apa2 utk baby kali ni. takut. nak happy, tapi x boleh. takut hepi, tibe2 jd mcm Afnan...

Afnan, ibu harap sgt2 ibu boleh bwk adik Afnan jumpa Afnan nanti before ibu ayah balik Malaysia, syg...ibu janji Afnan dalam hati ibu sampai bila2....Afnan doakan ibu sayang. doakan adik Afnan sihat walafiat dlm kandungan ibu ni. ibu syg anak2 ibu...

babies stressed out by buggies

* i have to remind myself about this next time before buyin any new buggy. been eye-ing on this Quinny buggy for some time. padahal baby pon takdak lagi. tapi suke buggy nih.my baby will look gorgeous in this type of buggy *wink* *

'Babies Stressed Out By Buggies'
sky news 21/11/08

Babies pushed in buggies facing away from their parents could suffer lasting psychological damage, scientists claim. Children made to face away from their carers are more likely to end up anxious adults, the first ever study on the effects of buggies has revealed.

The away-facing babies in the research were "emotionally impoverished", laughed less, talked less and suffered more stress than those facing their parent.

Almost 3,000 parent-infant pairs were studied as part of the research by Dundee University for the Talk To Your Baby early language campaign of the National Literacy Trust.

In one experiment, 20 babies were pushed for a mile, half the journey spent in an away-facing buggy and the other in a toward-facing one.

A quarter of parents using face-to-face buggies talked to their baby - more than twice as many as those using away-facing buggies.

Babies facing towards the buggy-pusher enjoyed a reduced heart rate and were twice as likely to fall asleep.

Only one baby in the group of 20 laughed during the away-facing journey, while half laughed during the face-to-face journey.

Dr Suzanne Zeedyk, from Dundee University's School of Psychology, said: "If babies are spending significant amounts of time in a baby buggy, that undermines their ability to communicate easily with their parent.

"Our data suggests that for many babies today, life in a buggy is emotionally impoverished and possibly stressful. Stressed babies grow into anxious adults."

Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan's Malaysian 'knighthood' postponed: official
(news.my.msn.com)

Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan has postponed a controversial ceremony to award him a Malaysian "knighthood" because he is too busy, officials said Wednesday.

Khan is to be presented with an award from southern Malacca state which carries the title "Datuk", equivalent to a British knighthood, after a 2001 film set in Malacca boosted its profile as a tourist destination.

The award has proved contentious, with some questioning whether Khan is deserving or whether local artists and celebrities should be recognised instead.

"The ceremony has been postponed for now," a senior Malacca official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

"We wanted the ceremony to take place over a weekend but Shah Rukh's schedule was such that we could not agree on a date so we are now working on a new one that will keep everyone happy, but it hasn't been fixed yet," he said.

Since the filming of Khan's 2001 movie, "One 2 Ka 4" at a popular resort in Malacca, the number of tourists coming from India has increased significantly, state officials say.

The 42-year-old heart-throb was to have received his award on November 29, in a ceremony aired live on India's top entertainment channel, Zee TV.

"The postponement of the award shows just how ridiculous it is to give such an award to Shah Rukh as Malaysia and the award most probably does not even picture on his radar," opposition politician Lim Kit Siang told AFP.

Malaysia has become a popular location for Indian films, which have a huge following among ethnic Indians and the majority Muslim-Malays.

*I still do not see the reason why he deserve any 'Datok' award whatsoever from Malacca. i want to question why he instead of the director, or even the publisher of the movie got the title. I think Malaysia is wasting its money on someone who does not deserve any of this, and someone who might not appreciate it at all. It is a real waste of money indeed *

Karipap Day

hari ni, plannye nak masak karipap. so, right after hubby pegi keje, terus amek bahan2 utk buat karipap. inti dah buat semalam.so, arini, keje nye utk uli kulit karipap shj.
bermula pukul 8 am, dalam pukul 11.40am dah siap buat 50-60 biji karipap. alhamdulillah. bolehla buat makan petang nanti bile hubby balik kije.

dalam hati, terasa nak beli Freezer. tapi still tgh pk pro and cons beli freezer

Pro:
1. bolehla simpan brg makanan sejuk dlm freezer. selalu sblm ni, selalu x muat. so, either beli brg2 sket je, or kalau beli chips ke ape, kene masak semua sekaligus. kalau x, nanti chips rosak. kadang2 kalau beli ayam terlebih siket, kene letak bahagian bwh freezer sebab x muat ruang dlm freezer. ayam jd berbau.
2. bolehla buat karipap byk2, dan simpan dlm freezer. senang, kalau nak makan, masak aje. pastu, kalau dok jauh ngan hubby, boleh siap kan lauk pauk dan simpan dlm freezer. so, nanti hubby boleh panaskan dan makan terus. senang. sian hubby sbb kdg2 balik keje nampak penat. so, bile dh ade mknn, boleh terus mkn after panaskan.
3. dah berniat nak beli kalau dapat keje

Cons:
1. Mahal. at least 149 euros above. lepas tu, x tahu nak beli freezer ke refrigerator biase. harga same je.
2. susah nak shipping kalau balik m'sia nanti. dahla nak balik m'sia dalam 6-7 bulan lagi je?
3. xde tempat nak letak dlm rumah. freezer will consume space. unless beli yg kecik. tp lagi kecik, lagi mahal.huhu
4. electricity jd mahal nanti.
5. takut2 x gune je kalau ade freezer nanti.

em..susah jugak nak decide. nak tentukan freezer ni satu keperluan atau kehendak pon, susah. sebab ia adalah keperluan, pada ms yg sama, ia adalah kehendak. difficult to decide.

entahla..i guess, i need to ask hubby for second opinion. tapi, kalau ikut hati, memang terasa nak beli.kalau ikut fikiran, entah...50-50

tgkla nanti. we'll see what hubby says...

Come On Malaysian Activists...think!

Malaysian activists threaten naked protest over rent hikes
Yesterday, 03:39 pm

Malaysian activists have threatened to stage a naked protest over a sudden hike in rental rates for government housing, drawing criticism from Muslim leaders and police Tuesday. Ramlan Abu Bakar of the Malaysian People's Reform Movement said its members were prepared to strip off outside the offices of the chief minister of Selangor state, after it more than doubled the cost of low-income housing.

"Protesting naked is our final act of desperation as the state government is literally stealing the clothes off our backs with this price increase," Ramlan told AFP.

"They are not helping the poor people here who barely make enough to afford the present rental of 124 ringgit (34 dollars per month) so how can we afford to pay 250 ringgit?" he said.

The hardline Islamic party PAS, which is part of the opposition alliance, criticised the plans, with its spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat saying only "uncivilised" people would resort to such an act.

"Even an animal like a cow which is stark naked, God created a tail to hide its genitals and here we are talking about human beings who have been given a mind," he told state news agency Bernama.

Ramlan said his group would submit a memorandum to opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, whose alliance runs Selangor state, and that if it failed to bring about any change they will push ahead with the nude protest.

State police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said action will be taken against anyone staging an illegal assembly.

"We will take firm action against any NGO (non-governmental organisation) that holds a gathering without a permit, and even more so if they are nude," he told Bernama.

* oh, i am totally agree with tok guru's opinion. manusia dianugerahkan akal fikiran utk berfikir. there are other solutions that can be sought to this problem. not by being naked, who only insane people will do *

You Don't Know the Pain

From the Qur'an
{It may be that you detest something which is good for you; and
it may be you love something even though it is bad for you.
Allah knows, and you do not know.}
~ Surat AlBaqarah 2/216

[Lessons from this verse] Pain doesn't feel good when it
happens, but Allah knows that it may be the best thing for us at
that moment. And sometimes we may be praying so hard for stuff,
and Allah knows how bad it is for us. Allah knows and we do not.
Trust in Allah.

Galway Medical SHO

today, my phone rang when i was sleeping in my room. it was the second ringing, when i fully woken up and answered that call. unexpectedly, the call was from GAlway Uni Hospital.
the conversation was like below:

(ladyHR)Hi, are u Dr Abdul Rahman, nor.....(as usual, the can not pronounce my name correctly, huhu)
(me)yes,it's me. Norhafizah Abdul Rahim (giggles)
(ladyHR)did u come for the interview in Galway for medical SHO last time?
(me) yes. (jawab dalam mamai)
(lady HR) are u still interested with the SHO post?it's just somebody has pulled out.
(me)oh..so, are u asking me whether i;m interested or not with this post???(why did i rephrase the question??haha...in disbelief kot. and to reconfirm the sentence.ape2lah...)
hm...(my mind was thinking....i need to grab this opportunity)...i think i'm gonna take it!
(ladyHR)so, u are interested?
(me)yes.
(ladyHR>)the post is for geriatric for 3 months, followed with radiation oncology for the consecutive 3 months.
(me>)ooo...
(ladyHR)so, i'll sent u email and mail u the offer letter and documents that u need to fill in.what u need to do is to reply back and say that u are interested with this post.
(me)ok, thank u (dalam hati, berbunga2 riang. x saba nak bagitahu sayang!!=) )
(ladyHR) thank u then. bye

it was a matter of minutes. i was not thinking well when she call. i was too mamai, and too excited. at last my prayer answered. but then, shortly after that, i thought, why didnt i 'jual mahal'??at least say that 'i'm gonna think about it' ke ape...hehe, ni tak, terus say 'yes'..muahaha...maybe, the excitement of getting job overwrite my pride kot.muahaha...

i was so excited. gave hubby calls straight away after that. but hubby only answered my entah-kali-ke-berapa call.he seemed busy.so, xnak kacaula..
nak bagitahu syikin, tapi pk2 balik, i better confirm that i secure the job first. kang tiba2 die kata, the person who pulled off wants the job back ke ape, naya aku nanti...

but then...in my excitement, i cannot avoid feeling sad. i'll be away from hubby. even though Galway is still in Ireland, but the thought of living far from him made my heart ache. i used to have him around all time during this past few years.tiba2 nak duduk jauh??i dont know. can i cope with it?i will surely miss him a lot. that is why i need to maximise the time i have with him now.

oh...i am sooo dont want to be far away from him. i dont know. when i was in Malaysia and he was in ireland, we were separated for 1 month, it was enough to make me suffer. i dont know how i'm going to live with him far beyond my reach??
oh..i dont want to think about this now. tgkla macamana nanti.

wa makaru wamakarallah.
wallahu khairal maakirin...

Allah itu sebaik2 perancang. mungkin ada hikmah di sebalik apa yg berlaku...
who knows..only Allah knows well....

How to get Pregnant Faster – Top Ten Tips

How to get Pregnant Faster – Top Ten Tips

(article taken from www.justmommies.com)

1. Have sex three times a week.

Having regular sex is the best way to get pregnant. Couples often try to time everything perfectly for ovulation but do not have sex when they think they are not ovulating. It is true that sex that is not within the time of ovulation will not result in pregnancy. However, because women do not always ovulate when they think they will, having sex three times a week will help to a woman cover her bases, so to speak, and not miss an opportunity to get pregnant.

2. Use an ovulation prediction kit or fertility monitor.

Using an ovulation kit to predict when you are ovulating will improve your chances of getting pregnant. For many women charting or other methods of ovulation prediction are too confusing. Ovulation prediction kits work by reading LH surges prior to ovulation. They are relatively easy to use and are generally accurate for predicting ovulation. Fertility monitors, such as the Clear Blue Easy monitor, are also a worthwhile investment if you would like to get pregnant faster. Fertility monitors are similar to ovulation prediction kits in that they read changes in LH but they also read changes in other hormones and don’t require any guesswork for couples. They are easy to use and will tell you when the best time to get pregnant is.

3. Have sex before ovulation (not after).

Sometimes couples get confused about the best time to have sex in relationship to ovulation. You have a small window of time each month to get pregnant. After a woman ovulates the egg will survive approximately 24 hours. Sperm, on the other hand, will live for up to three to five days. This is why having sex two to three days before ovulation will increase your chances of getting pregnant. Don’t wait until the day you ovulate to have sex. Your partner’s sperm will last longer than your egg and you don’t want to miss an opportunity by waiting.

4. Don’t rely on the Calendar method for predicting ovulation.

A lot of couples have heard to have sex around day fourteen of your cycle. This is based on the calendar method and assumes that you have a regular 28-day cycle and ovulate mid-cycle. Although this is better than just picking an arbitrary day to have sex, it is not a very accurate way to predict when you ovulate. Many women do not ovulate on day fourteen and knowing precisely when you ovulate will help you time intercourse better. Ovulation prediction kits, looking at previous months bbt charts, or watching for body cues will help you to determine when you ovulate.

5. Charting may not be the best way to predict ovulation.

Charting is great for tracking your cycle but it does have disadvantages. By the time you can see ovulation on a bbt chart, you have already ovulated. It is good to chart so you can track your cycles, see if you ovulate the same time each month, and also so you can look back on your cycle and see if you timed things right. But if this is your first cycle trying to get pregnant or if you are not ovulating at the same time each month, an ovulation prediction kit would be more helpful.

6. See a doctor before you start trying to get pregnant.

Make sure you are in good health and have had a regular check up from your OBGYN or medical provider. Untreated infections, sexually transmitted diseases, or poor health can affect your chances of getting pregnant. Its good to see a doctor as well as start taking prenatal vitamins prior to trying to conceive.

7. Don’t smoke, drink alcohol, or abuse drugs when trying to get pregnant.

This may seem like common sense but many women do try to get pregnant while smoking, drinking or using drugs. Smoking, drugs, and alcohol can affect your fertility. It will also affect your unborn child. It is important to stop smoking or using drugs and alcohol before getting pregnant and not wait until you find out you are pregnant.

8. Have enjoyable sex.

Sometimes when couples are trying to conceive, sex becomes a job or function of reproduction and is not as enjoyable. Plan a romantic evening or try something different to spice things up. How you are feeling sexually may factor into your chances of getting pregnant. Some researchers believe that having an orgasm during sex increases your chances of getting pregnant. For women, the spasmic movements of orgasm will help pull the sperm into the uterus and for men a better orgasm may increase the man’s sperm count.

9. Have sex in positions that keep sperm inside the vagina longer.

The missionary position is a good position to use when trying to get pregnant. Avoid positions where the woman is on top. Gravity will allow sperm to leak out with these positions. Also try placing a pillow under your hips to help tilt your pelvis and keep the sperm in longer. Don’t get up right after sex. Try to relax and allow the sperm to stay in the vagina as long as possible.

10. There is no such thing as trying too hard to get pregnant.

Most couples get pregnant within a year of trying. If you have not gotten pregnant within a year consult your doctor for advice.

OPK test...

nothing really.just feel like writing down sthg here. feel lonely recently.

yesterday, i was very excited because for the very first time ever, my LH OPK (Ovulation Predictor Kit) i bought showed two lines. it was the very first time. i was soo excited. i dont know whether it is real positive though. i read the instruction and it says if the test line is darker/equal colour intensity than the control band, then it's positive. but mine, it turned paler than the control band, and after a few minutes, the colour turned the same as control band.

to be honest, my excitement is greater towards seeing those 2 lines for the 1st time, rather than knowing that i am ovulating (if that's the case). i dont know.i lose hope these past few days. i'm upset being myself. i'm a failure, cant get hold to any job, and wasting hubby's money all the time. i feel down, and lazy to do anything. or is this sadness because of my hormonal imbalance?cannot really tell...

today, hubby came back and got angry at me because i forgot to switch off the iron since yesterday. really, i had no idea that i forgot to turn it off after ironing hubby's oncall scrub yesterday. if only i knew, i would not waste my hubby's money (electricity=money). he kept quiet all evening, even cancelling his plan to go to city because of this mistake.anyway, 'cold war' between us did not last long. as usual, either me or him will forgive each other. isnt it nice like that?but it happened after tears dried on my cheeks as always ;p.

ujian Allah berbeza

betulla..ujian Allah pada setiap makhluknya memang berbeza.
baru lps browsed through the friendster website sat ni.
dapat tahu many of my friends either pregnant/got pregnant for the second child.
bestnye diorg. Allah x bagi masalah utk conceive unlike me.
sedih pon ada, terkilan pon x kurang. bilelah Allah nak bagi aku zuriat ni. terlalu ingin utk hidup 'bertiga'.

" ya Allah, kurniakanlah aku anak2 penyambung zuriat yg soleh/solehah. aku bermohon pada Mu ya Allah. hanya Engkau yg mampu perkenankan doaku "

honey and cinnamon

i told my friend that my period is getting very irregular now. having the same problem, she advised me to take 1 tsp of honey + 1 pinch of cinnamon powder every morning. she said that it works for her.
i might give it a try to see whether my body will react or not to this type of 'medication'.
anyway, i searched online about the benefit of honey and cinnamon and i came accross this.

Cleanse the Body with Honey and Cinnamon

Boil 1 cup of water. Pour the water over 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Cover the mixture and let it steep for 30 minutes. Then, while cool, add 2 teaspoons of raw honey. Never add the honey when the mixture is hot because the heat will destroy the enzymes and other nutrients in the raw honey. Drink half of the mixture right before going to bed. Cover and refrigerate the other half of the mixture. In the morning drink the other half cold or at room temperatuer.

Do not add anything else to this recipe. It is only effective on an empty stomach, primarily at night. The cinnamon and honey will have a cleansing effect in the digestive tract, cleaning out parasites and other fungus and bacteria that slow down your digestion and cause a toxic build up. While doing this cleanse, if the toxins being released cause any unpleasant side effects, cut back on how much you use or take a break. One of the pleasant side effects can be a feeling of more energy and joy.

We have never offered Cinnamon Leaf oil before, because I honestly never experienced a sample that didn't smell muddy and lifeless. This oil, product of a dedicated highly skilled distiller is different. Light, vibrant, full of life, it is a beautiful oil. Far less sensitizing than our Cinnamon Bark oil, but still a skin irritant and possible sensitizer so should be used highly diluted. The aroma is similar to a blend of cinnamon and clove (because of its high Eugenol content). Cinnamon leaf is a powerful broad spectrum anti-infectious oil, also anti fungal. Highly diluted it can be an effective addition to tooth and gum care blends. Diffused it may be helpful in respiratory blends. Emotionally some authorities recommend it for feelings of isolation, loneliness and fear. It is also said to stimulate creativity.

Recent studies have indicated that Cinnamon Leaf and Ginger, in synergy, are an effective analgesic and rubifactant. The combination of the two are more effective at lower dilutions than either one alone.

WARNING: Please avoid use during pregnancy or with children under five. Cinnamon Leaf may induce menstruation or stimulate childbirth contractions. As mentioned above, it is a strong skin irritant. Avoid use of Cinnamon Leaf if you are on anti-coagulant therapy (blood thinners.)

Honey and Cinnamon

Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a "Ram Ban" (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases. Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients.

Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada, on its issue dated 17 January, 1995, has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by Honey and Cinnamon as researched by western scientists:

HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also those who already have had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins.

ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured (allegedly). In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.

BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it.It destroys the germs in the bladder.

TOOTHACHE: Make a paste of one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and five teaspoons of honey and apply on the aching tooth. This may be applied 3 times a day till the tooth stops aching.

CHOLESTEROL: Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10% within 2 hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken 3 times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for 3 days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold and clear the sinuses.
UPSET STOMACH: Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root.

GAS: According to the studies done in India & Japan, it is revealed that if honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

IMMUNE SYSTEM: Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacteria and viral diseases.

INDIGESTION: Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food, relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

INFLUENZA: A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural ingredient which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.

LONGEVITY: Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Take 4 spoons of honey, 1 spoon of cinnamon powder and 3 cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4 cup, 3 to 4 times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans also increases and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of a 20-year-old.

PIMPLES: Three tablespoons of Honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root.

SKIN INFECTIONS: Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.

WEIGHT LOSS: Daily in the morning 1/2 hour before breakfast on an empty stomach and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one-cup water. If taken regularly it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking of this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.

CANCER: Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully (allegedly). Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month 3 times a day.

FATIGUE: Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon power in equal parts, are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 p.m. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body within a week.

BAD BREATH: People of South America, first thing in the morning gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.

HEARING LOSS: Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restore hearing. This is all so they say!

hm...banyak rupanya benefit dia...
x rugi kalau cuba. mana tahu berkesan utk saya.
no harm done. yet, mane tahu boleh menyembuhkan saya.
kita cuba dulu ya ! =)

hypocrite

hypocrite (definitions taken from dictionary.com)
hyp⋅o⋅crite   /ˈhɪpəkrɪt/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [hip-uh-krit]

–noun 1. a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.
2. a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, esp. one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.

well, why i'm putting hypocrite as the title for this entry??
because a few minutes ago, my bro-in-law asked me via YM about the meaning of this word. apparently, one of his friends said that he is hypocrite. he did not really understand the meaning,so he asked me today the definition of it.
i tried my best to explain it to him. but i think, he's probably upset by it.

my bro-in-law is a very shy man. since i got married, i think i've only spoken to him a few times. not that i do not want to talk to him, but he speak very little in front of people. but he is a different man when we chat via YM. i'm surprised.he 'talked' a lot when we chat.he can tell me everything via the net, but, person to person, he is as quiet as a mouse.
always being a good man i know, he's probably upset when someone he called friend told him that he is being hypocrite.

according to him, one of the ustazs who taught him said hypocrite carries the same meaning as Munafiq. honestly, i do not know. it seems that munafiq carries a much broader meaning...

i remember during my old days in MMP,we used to memorize the meaning of munafiq in arabic.i tried to recall the exact sentences(in arabic), but could not. with the help of a friend, here is the sentences in Arabic that we used to memorized in our school years;

iza hadatha kazaba,
waiza wa'ada akhlafa
waiza' tumina khana...

anyway, the meaning in english is as below(with the proper hadith):

According to Sahīh Bukhārī, the Prophet said, "Whoever has the following four (characteristics) will be a pure hypocrite and whoever has one of the following four characteristics will have one characteristic of hypocrisy unless and until he gives it up. 1. Whenever he is entrusted, he betrays. 2. Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie. 3. Whenever he makes a covenant, he proves treacherous. 4. Whenever he quarrels, he behaves in a very imprudent, evil and insulting manner."

honestly, his friend probably misunderstood him..i dont know the real situation. but he is a very good man in my opinion..

Ada dapat UPSR 5A

i thought i should mention that my younger and tallest sister in the family, syuhada aka shada, got 5A's in UPSR. result was just announced two days ago by the education Minister. anyway, i knew this great news after being informed by elder sis by text

'jah,nak bagitahu s2 bende, shada dpt 5a'

i was soo happy. it was unexpected.why i say so?not that i undermine my adik's ability, tapi she was so shy, was soo lazy back then when she was in third grade. i remember she was soo into playing with her friends, and ignored her study.i guess she is different now. still shy, but she has proved me wrong.proud of her actually.

i remembered the old days when i got 4A's in this same exam. got offer to pursue my study in Kolej Yayasan Saad. it was newly opened that time.year 1995 if i'm not mistaken. abah wished that i continue my secondary school in Maahad MMP, Kota Bharu. i showed him the offer letter, but he was not interested. when i insisted to go there, then he started reading that offer letter. when he came accross the word 'swiming suit', as the letter mentioned that they provide swimming pool and any student who is interested, may bring their own swimming suit. i know abah did not understand all the english sentences in that offer letter, but he knew well the word 'swimming suit'. so, he rejected it. when he rejected, it also meant that my dream to go to SBP ruined.

anyway, abah did make a good decision for me. otherwise, my destiny would not be the same. i might not be here now, if not to abah's strict rules and regulations at home.
thanks a million abah.i love u soo much.

back to shada?i hope she continues the 'sister's tradition' by going to MMP. (i was the first went to mmp, followed with tining, iti, and now shada.kak ann went to SMZ for her secondary school). we'll see.i might give her a call today to congratulate her. well done sis!

*updated*
rang her this morning.she sounded very excited over the phone. claim for present from me. said that abah gave her RM 50 as present. =) promise her to buy new sony ericsson phone. tgkla nanti, if i dont change my mind.otherwise, i'll buy her sthg else. just dont want to indulge her with the 'texting-world'*

my little angel...

my lil' afnan is almost one year old now.27th november 2008 would be his first birthday. about 2 weeks from now...
i wonder how would he become if he is alive. would he start to call me ibu already?or ayah?
or would he start to walk already at this age?
i miss the old days when he was still in my womb. wish that he would be there forever, and never came out and left me alone.
he left me miserable. but i know, he left me because he loves me. he wants me to be patient, brave, and have courage in life.
he left me for my own good.
i love him soo much, so much that i would sacrifice my life for him if Allah let me.i'd let myself die for him to stay alive.but takdir is takdir.
Allah loves him more. more than me. more than anyone else.
i love my baby...
afnan...

Robert W. Cantrell, MD

Arch Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2008;134(3): 237-240.

Physicians have suffered a significant reduction in the prestige and
respect that they once enjoyed. There are many reasons for this: the
commercialization of the practice of medicine; the surrender of
control of the physician-patient relationship to insurance companies,
health maintenance organizations, and other business entities; and
the increasingly high cost of delivering medical care. Even when most
of the increased costs are driven by drug, hospital, laboratory, and
radiological fees, these are perceived by many patients as "doctor
bills." To maintain viable practices, physicians must increase their
patient volume and spend less time with each, which contributes to
the diminution of physicians in the eyes of the public and the
changed image of our calling as a business rather than a profession.
With an increasingly cynical, testy, and confrontational populace
exemplified by the behavior on both sides of the political spectrum
during election campaigns, we physicians find ourselves "less loved,"
and, in some cases, "dissed" (using street language), and we don't
like it.

Most individuals enter the profession of medicine because of a
sincere desire to alleviate suffering in their fellow man. If,
however, you "scratch below the surface," you will find that many of
us also want to be loved and respected for the dedication that we
exhibit and the valuable service we render. This is not unique to our
profession, but physicians, like other medicine men and women since
time immemorial, have usually occupied positions of respect in the
tribe or society in which they have lived. Today, we feel ourselves
slipping from that pedestal.

Today, anyone with a computer can go online and find multiple
discussions of any symptoms, disease, or other disorder plus
recommendations, not always valid, for correcting the medical
problems. So, do we need the physician anymore? More people are
seeking medical care from physicians than ever before, and it is not
just because they haven't figured out a way to perform surgery over
the Internet.

For those of us who studied science in high school, worked hard to
get into a good college where we diligently studied to get accepted
into medical school, where we studied diligently to obtain a
residency, where we worked hard to join a successful practice, where
we worked hard to pay the bills, oblivious to the changing world
around us, we have had little opportunity to evaluate and contemplate
these issues. It is not until you retire, as I have, that you have
the opportunity to consider these issues and determine the solutions,
if any, but by this time, even if you still care (and some don't) or
you can still think (and some can't), few will listen to someone who
may be considered to be out of touch.

If any of what I have said rings true, let me offer you some advice
that may assist in negotiating the bumps in the road of your career.

GIVING ADVICE

First, be chary of giving advice; wise people don't need it, and
fools won't heed it. Sometimes it is worth what you pay for it. As
physicians, however, our advice is often sought, and we need
guidelines on how to provide it. So, here is some free advice.
Remembering it may be worth what you pay for it.

Consider that you won't always have the answer to a patient's
question, so don't be afraid to admit it. Owing to the amount of
medical information available to laymen, patients sometimes already
know the answers to the questions they ask; they may be testing you
and can recognize a false answer. Also, don't be too certain that
what you were taught as fact is so. When I graduated from medical
school in 1960, I thought I knew all the answers to all the medical
questions. It all went downhill after graduation, and it was not long
before I discovered that I didn't have all the answers—that putting
an X in the right box on a multiple-choice examination was far
different from putting my finger on the right spot in the examination
of a patient. Physicians have an obligation to learn as much as
possible about what is considered current, but they also have an
obligation not to accept something until it has been studied properly
and proven.

Physicians should be as scientific as possible, which means having an
inquiring mind open to new facts and not being reluctant to question
old ones. As Alexander Pope said, "Be not the first by whom the new
are tried, nor yet the last to lay the old aside."

ETHICS

Physicians should embody the highest standards of ethics: honesty,
integrity, morality, and fidelity. These virtues are regarded as old
fashioned by many who subscribe to postmodern, secular thinking, and
they are indeed old fashioned, if by that one means they have been
around for a long time. These principles have survived because it has
been learned, sometimes through bitter experience by failing to apply
them, that these standards are the best way to live. Fashionable
today are situational ethics, the concept that the truth changes with
the circumstances. Nothing is certain; people don't do something
without an ulterior motive; virtue is no longer its own reward. More
likely the driving force is, "If it feels good, do it!" There may be
professions that can adopt this thinking and survive (although I
doubt it), but medicine is not one of them. To the extent that we
have adopted this thinking, it can be directly related to the degree
to which our respect has fallen.

It is crucial that a physician always be truthful, and truth does not
change with circumstance. This doesn't mean that what is said is
always 100% accurate or correct; I used to tell the residents that
half of what I was teaching them was wrong, I just didn't know which
half it was. One should always relate what he or she believes is
true. This may be more difficult than one might think. I've had
people say to me, "If Granddad has cancer, don't tell him. It would
just kill him." My response has always been, "If Granddad has cancer,
he has a right to know, and he didn't get to be Granddad by avoiding
the truth. While I will be sensitive to the situation, if he asks me,
I most certainly will tell him the truth." The net effect of this is
to increase your veracity in the eyes of the family members, because
if you would lie to Granddad, you would probably lie to them. Also, I
was always too busy to keep different stories straight.

I also told the residents and students that in my experience, there
are 3 things that have diminished or ruined careers: drinking too
much alcohol, financial improprieties, and sexual involvement with
the patients or those with whom you work. These 3 things are
frequently related. This is not only a moral issue, it is good
business to avoid these traps.

HUMILITY

Humility is a virtue that not many physicians possess. This is
understandable when one considers the life-and-death decisions
physicians are sometimes called on to make and the adulation we
sometimes receive from patients and their families. We must, however,
always guard against becoming arrogant. Not all of the patients we
treat have good outcomes. Many patients will either die or get well
in spite of what the physician does. Voltaire said prior to
1778, "The art of medicine consists in amusing the patient while
nature cures the disease." Or, as Ambrose Paré, the father of French
surgery stated before 1590, "Physicians treat, God heals."

TALKING TO PATIENTS

I'm always amazed when I hear a physician, often young but not
always, say to a patient with cancer or some other potentially fatal
disease, "Madam, you have 1 chance in 3 of living 2 more years if you
follow my recommendations. " Or, worse, "Only 59.5% of patients with
your disease will live 5 years." This is applying a scientific
precision to a situation that cannot be that precise.

Statistics are fine for writing papers or evaluating a given
treatment, assuming valid controls are present, but a single patient
is not a statistic, and you should not make the patient into one. If
90% of a particular group of patients will be dead in 5 years
according to statistical analysis, it follows that 10% will be alive
in 5 years. To which group does the patient you are addressing at the
moment belong? Granted, patients have a right to know generally their
chances of survival in order to make plans, but as physicians, we
don't always know what these chances are for a specific patient. I've
seen patients who I thought did not have much chance of surviving who
went on to respond well to treatment and live many years. Conversely,
I've seen patients who seemed as though they would do very well
deteriorate after standard treatment and die. It is not easy to
predict outcomes.

Norman Cousins, former editor of the Saturday Review of Literature,
was once diagnosed with a terminal illness. Rather than seek
palliative therapy in a hospital with an undetermined outcome, he
chose to enter a hotel, consume 25 000 U of vitamin C daily, and
watch old Marx Brothers movies. He believed he laughed himself well.
This episode stimulated him to write a book titled Anatomy of an
Illness: Reflections on Healing and Regeneration1 (it is still in
print, and it is recommended reading for all physicians). On the dust
jacket, Cousins wrote these words, "It all began, I said, when I
decided that some experts don't really know enough to make a
pronouncement of doom on a human being. And I said I hoped they would
be careful about what they said to others; they might be believed and
that could be the beginning of the end."1 His point, of course, was
that physicians should not destroy the hope of patients. In his later
years, Cousins served on the faculty of the University of California,
Los Angeles, Medical School, reminding the students of these lessons.

Be careful what you tell your patients; they are fragile beings,
wonderfully constructed, but words can damage them just like a knife,
and they place great trust in you. No person has a right to destroy
the hope of another person.

Use language that patients understand. This may be more difficult
than you might imagine. I once undertook an unpublished study on
informed consent. I would carefully explain to my preoperative
patients what type of surgery was to be performed. I would then ask
them to write on the consent form what they understood the procedure
to be. Fully half could not name the procedure I had just explained
to them. Patients will rarely admit that they don't understand, and
they are often more frightened than they will admit. When they enter
a physician's office, or are seriously ill, many are not very
perceptive or receptive. Small wonder then, that some malpractice
cases have been brought by patients who say they were not informed by
the surgeon of what he or she was going to do in spite of a consent
form in the medical chart, signed by that patient, that clearly
outlined the procedure with all the possible risks and complications.
One moral of this story is that keeping accurate, complete, and
clearly written records is a must. If your handwriting is illegible,
as with most physicians, have it typed. This is good patient care as
well as preventive legal care.

Offer a compassionate, caring attitude to the patient. Many patients
today complain about the care they receive or fail to receive. In
fact, from a strictly scientific view, this "delivery of medical
attention" today is perhaps the finest ever provided in the history
of the world. However, aside from its significant cost, it is
frequently perceived by the patient as not being delivered with care.
The aloof, scientifically oriented, detached physician may be totally
correct in his or her diagnosis and treatment but end up with a
patient cured but dissatisfied that they did not receive the proper
care.

HUMOR

I believe the physician should possess and exhibit a sense of humor.
As Cousins showed,1 laughter is great medicine. There is some
evidence2-3 that endorphin levels rise when one laughs and are
lowered when one is dour or depressed. Without being flippant, you
should always try to exhibit a positive attitude toward patients. I
treated mostly head and neck cancer during my career, and when a
patient was given this diagnosis, they were usually appropriately
scared. Some would ask, "What are my chances? Am I going to die?" My
response was always, "Yes." After the shock of this fairly brusque
reply had passed, I would add, "Everyone must die sometime, but I am
here to see that this doesn't happen to you on my watch." I would
then outline what treatment plan the tumor board had recommended, and
go on,

This is what we are going to do for you. And here is what you are
going to do for me. You are going to quit smoking and quit drinking.
If you are unwilling to do this, you will need to find another
doctor, because otherwise, you will just be wasting your money and my
time. People who develop these cancers, usually because of smoking
and/or drinking too much, even when cured by the therapy we
recommend, if they continue to smoke or drink have a 50:50 chance of
developing a new cancer within 2 years.

All of my patients did not stop smoking or drinking, and I never
turned any away, but many did quit, and all were surprised that I
felt so strongly about these vices. Some said that no physician had
ever "told" them to quit before. I found this hard to believe and
most curious until I analyzed exactly what they were saying, "No
physician told them to quit." The physicians would recommend or
advise them to quit but did not order them to do so. Perhaps it was
my military background, but it was not difficult for me to give an
order. You can disregard a recommendation or advice, but you must
disobey an order. Some of my colleagues have argued that we don't
have the right to order patients in this fashion. Really? We write
orders all the time for such picayune things as when a hospitalized
patient can get up to go to the bathroom or not, what kind of diet
they can have, and what drugs they should take. Why shouldn't we
order them to cease something that is so deleterious to their health?

Don't take yourself too seriously. We physicians, working long hours,
dealing with disease, death, and dying (or worse, growing paperwork),
sometimes put on a long face and walk around like Digby O'Dell, the
friendly undertaker. When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
try to be a little detached and find the humor in the situation. I
used to tell myself in such circumstances that someday I would look
back at this and laugh. At that moment, however, it didn't seem very
funny. Being cheerful at such times is not always easy to do.
Allegedly, Winston Churchill's wife, trying to console him after he
had led Great Britain during World War II as prime minister only to
be voted out of office once the war was over, said, "Don't worry,
Winston, this may well be a blessing in disguise." Harrumphed
Churchill in reply, "Right now, it is very effectively disguised."
Keep smiling; it will confound your detractors. It is, of course,
important to always project appropriate gravitas in interactions with
seriously ill or dying patients.

One of my pet peeves is the physician who talks down to a patient
with a very loud voice. Although a loud voice may be indicated with
someone who is partially deaf, in most cases, it is not. It is as
though the physician feels that the louder the voice, the truer the
words will be, and the more the patient will comprehend. Talk in a
normal tone of voice, and treat the patient with respect. You do not
have the right to call patients, especially older persons, by their
first names unless you also wish to be called by your first name.
Elderly people, of whom there are more and more each day and of whom
I am one, deserve the respect of you young "whippersnappers. "

PRIORITIES

Where you place your values and priorities tells a great deal about a
person. I was told early in my career to first be a husband, then be
a father, then be a physician, and then be a specialist. It is good
advice, and good priorities, that I tried to follow. Medicine is a
very seductive mistress. It is very easy to get caught up in doing
good and forget about other important things in life such as family,
friends, and enjoying pursuits outside of medicine.

It is also important that one take control of one's life and
practice. Understand early on that there will never be enough time in
the day to see all the patients who would like to see you, especially
if you are a devoted physician. You must be efficient, be on time,
and try to adhere to a clinic schedule; do not allow yourself to be
lured into a trap of seeing more patients in a given time period than
can reasonably be managed. You will "burn out," and the patient will
not be happy. Try not to keep the patients waiting. It would probably
come as a revelation to some physicians that other people's time is
just as valuable as their own. I have always said (and practiced)
that if I had an appointment, I would not wait an hour to see a
physician unless I was unconscious.

In short, exhibit integrity, honesty, and fidelity. Care for and
about your patients, maintain good humor, and don't take yourself too
seriously. Speak quietly and with respect in language the patients
can understand, and never destroy their hope. Concern yourself with
the whole patient. If we physicians do this, we won't have to worry
about our place in society; it will be there.

Editor's Note
Robert W. Cantrell, MD, had a long and illustrious career in
otolaryngology– head and neck surgery, culminating as the vice
president and provost of the University of Virginia Health System for
7 years. Despite his retirement from his leadership roles, Dr
Cantrell still maintains a keen interest in the practice of medicine
and the maintenance of professionalism and ethical behavior.

This is an abbreviated version of a talk that he has delivered, and
continues to deliver, to the University of Virginia resident staff as
well as prospective residency candidates. Because of its popularity
and cogent focus, I requested he put on paper that which he has so
eloquently delivered verbally. I do hope that you find it as cogent
and poignant as we have.

Hadis

From the Qur'an
{That is a nation which has already passed away: there awaits it
whatever it has earned, while you will have what you have
earned. You will not be questioned about what they have been doing.}
~ Surat Al-Baqarah 2/141

[Lessons from this verse] We spend and waste oh-so-much time on
the faults of others, yet on the enormous day we will not be
asked about them. We will be asked about how we spent OUR
lives. Focus on what is in YOUR control today.

Our Landlady...

teringat mase kitorg tgh cari rumah/bedsit mase baru2 kawen lebih kurang bulan august 2005.susah woo....
nak cari yg affordable, within walking distance to CUH/UCC, and besar utk 2org...
memang susah sgt2. semua mahal2. mase tu student, mane boleh afford kalau mahal2 sgt. mane nak wat saving lagi, transportation, food, semua tu kene amek kira. memang susahla...

banyak umah kitorg view mase tu. dari one double room yg kecik, kepada bedsit yg lagi kecik, semuanya mahal2.tu x cite lagi bile mana kitorg janji nak jumpe landlord nak tgk umah, tunggu sejam dua kat tpt yg dijanjikan, alih2 that landlord without informing us (kitorg yg call slps tunggu berjam2 dlm gelap dan sejuk) bagitahu yg umah kitorg nak view dah taken. memang byk sengsara nya nak cari umah kalau student. kite nak yg murah, tp yg ade semua mahal2 aje. ngan perangai landlord lagi yg x responsible...memang ada sekali tu,siap menangis lagi sbb cari umah x jumpe.huhu...

semua website kitorg survey. dari daft.ie, ke Evening Echo (akhbar setempat Cork), hinggalah ke website UCC. we really made a huge effort to find 'our place' that we can call home.susah. (bape kali mention 'susah' daa...hehe...tp mmg susah)

until one afternoon, i checked UCC website psl accommodation, ade org baru je advertise apartment in Cork city for 680 Euros for 4 weeks. terus aku call org tu. selalunya yg make the calls ni hubby aku, tp that afternoon, aku beranikan diri. biar sama2 usaha. selama tu, aku selalu malu kalau nak cakap ngan Irish over the phone.i usually left it to hubby to make calls. tp aku lah tukang mengusha rumah2 tersebut dlm internet/paper...

so, aku call org tu. and janji sekian2 nak view rumah tu. and after that, bagitahu hubby yg aku dh set time etc nak view umah. hari tu jugak kami plan nak gi view umah tu sbb takut taken macam umah2 yg sebelum2 ni.
rupa2nya, we were the first couple who viewed the house.
mula2 masuk apartment tu, aku dh kagum.iyelah, sbg student, bape byk kali sgt la aku dtg tgk apartment. x mampu. so, landlord and landlady (mase tu kitorg berkenalan la...landlady tu name die kathleen o keefe, and sorang lagi tu anak die, namenye declan o keefe.) bwk kitorg gi view umah tersebut.rupa2nya dekat sgt ngan Outpatient Mercy Hospital.sebelum tu,aku x penah tahu kewujudan apartments belakang mercy until that day, baru aku perasan.

kami naik ke third floor. tercungap2 jugakla. but when we entered the apartment, we fell in love with the house in seconds. memang suke aa umah tu...tp dlm pkran, 680euros/4 weeks, mampukah kami? mase tu allowance scholarship pon only 600euros seorg. maksudnye, 340euros spend kat umah bagi seorg.mane nak byr mkn, electricity, transportation, saving nak balik m'sia etc???tp kami betul2 suke umah tu...

bile dh abeh view umah tu, kami pon discuss dgn landlady. kami bagitahula yg kami betul2 suka umah ni. tp kami x mampu nak byr 680euros/4 weeks. that is too much for us. boleh x diorg considerkan kurangkan harga rent tu?

dlm hati, mase tu, aku berharap sgt diorg kasik.mmg rase x mampu nak byr 680 euros/4 weeks.x mampu. aku dh menangis2 dpn hubby bagitahu yg aku nak jugak umah ni.bukan sandiwara, tp aku mmg dh pressure cari rumah mase tu. nak biar lepas segala beban cari umah ni by renting this apartment. tp, hubby pk panjang.iyelah, mahal utk kami berdua.aku bg cdgn utk rent bilik single tu utk student.tp mase tu aku x leh pk any student yg snggup masuk bilik kecik tu.

mase tu aku memang determined nak jugak umah ni. kitorg beriya discuss ngan landlady+landlord tu. last2 sekali, after long discussion with them, diorg sanggup kurangkan rent to 640 euros/month. summer time lak 400euros/month. serious, mase tu, kegembiraan aku mmg x dpt ditahan2 lagi.hepi betul.mmg menangis dpn diorg. landlady tu cakap, die suke kami sbb kami honest, x tipu ngan diorg. lagi plak, die tahu yg kami akan jaga umah diorg betul2, x de clubbing cam Irish malam2. mase tu aku lega+happy betul.

suke sgt dpt umah ni...though tingkat 3, tp worth all the sweat.hehe ;p. tp ms nak pindah, mak oii, penat..nak mengankut smp tingkat 3, memang penat aa semua yg menolong ms tu.thank u guys who helped us that time..we owed u big time.

anyway, we already lived here for almost 4 years now. landlady tu pon dh kenal kami.siap ajak minum tea kalau gi umah diorg. kathleen tu siap panggil 'Dr muhammad' lagi kat husband aku. mase new year, diorg bagi sweets ngan card.memang kamcing la.though kitorg hanya akan call diorg awal2 bulan je sbb nak bayar rent...

anyway, sbg penutup citer psl apartment The Moorings yg kitorg duduk skrg, aku nak tunjuk gambar Kathleen O keefe mase muda yg sempat di snap oleh hubby mase gi minum teh umah diorg last 2 months ms aku kat m'sia. here is her picture...and declan sekali...=)

Big Fat Chunky Chewy Cookie

ingredients

a. 500gm all purpose flour
b. 5g baking soda
c. 5g salt
d. 340g unsalted butter,melted
e. 440g packed brown sugar
f. 200g white sugar
g. 30ml vanilla extracted
h. 2 eggs
i. 2 egg yolk
j. 670g semisweet choc chip

how??

easy...
d+e+f+g+ (h+i) +(a+b+c)+j

cheh...mcm formula matematik plak.anyway, senang je.
bile nak buat ni,teringat kat kak khansa'. she was the one who introduced me to this long long time ago. skrg, hubby dh develop suka mkn cookies ni sbb penah beli kat subway.tu yg tibe2 bersemangat nak buat....

I lost my purse....

hari ni, aku betul2 x bersemangat nak buat apa2. maybe sbb bad performance aku ms interview tgh hari tu.so,balik interview, aku merayau2 gi Tesco Wilton, saje survey2 cari brg2 nak buat 'big fat chunky chewy cookies' utk hubby. sebenarnye, mmg wander around kat tesco sbb tension jugak.sedih pk sbb i did really badly during the interview.mmg regret betul sbb x study betul2. byk plak soalan yg die tanya. huhu....clinical cases lak tu.otak aku plak dh rusty.memang aku jd blank kat depan2 interviewer tu.

nak dijadikan cerite, mase aku kat tesco tu, aku call hubby suh amek. hubby cakap, nanti die call bile dh sampai.masalahnye, mase tu la telepon aku plak mati, xde beteri.memang susah la nak call sape2.aku plak isau takut hubby mencari2.
so, lps beli barang, aku letak handbag kat penyangkut kat troley tesco tuh, then aku pergi ke depan tesco, tunggu hubby, kot2 dah sampai...

mase tu weather dh jd sejuk dah.so,aku masuk ke dlm bgnn balik. mase tu, aku perasan handbag aku yg kat penyangkut tuh.dlm hati, "aku kene ingat beg aku kat sini, nanti lupa,naya.takpe2,aku sure ingat nyer...".rupe2nye itu tanda yg aku akan hilang beg. Allah dah bagi aku hint awal2 supaya beringat psl beg aku tu, tp aku yakin aku takkan lupe...

nak dijadikan cerite, bile hubby dtg, die bwk barang dlm troley masuk dlm kerete.aku plak berjalan belakang die masuk dlm kete. mase tu x terlintas langsung psl handbag aku.mase dlm kete, aku dok cerite kat hubby psl interview. how it went, soalan ni soalan tu kene ty...

mase tu kitorg on the way ke Mahon, sbb hubby nak amek brg kat argos.mase kami smpai mahon, mase nak kuar kete, baru aku perasan beg tgn aku x ade. mase tu mula lah x keruan. aku jd serba x kene. cam nak menangis. aku gesa hubby balik ke tesco terus sbb aku tahu mmg aku silap tertinggal kat troley.mmg dh check dlm kete, x ade!!!

dalam perjalanan ke Tesco balik, aku mmg nak menangis. dalam hati, aku kata Allah x sayang aku sbb buat aku hilang segala benda. dahla anak aku mati, kerja x dapat, sekarang dah hilang beg plak. aku memang sedih aa...dalam hati aku,aku kata, kalau Allah syg aku, aku akan jumpe beg aku balik.x baik kan aku cakap camni.anyway, hubby senyap je.sbb die tahu kalau die ckp pape, sure aku akan nangis nyer.so,die diam je.

bile sampai kat Tesco, aku terus berlari masuk.dok tengok2 kat bahagian troleys mmg x ade.aku mmg nak menangis dah. sure dh ade org amek.habislah aku.
aku pegi customer service tesco tuh, saje nak ty,kot2 ade.
bile aku cakap good evening je kat salesgirl tesco tu, terus die senyum kat aku and cakap " your handbag, is it?" aku pon lega giler. die tahu aku hilang beg.die kuarkan beg aku, and passkan beg tu kat aku.Alhamdulillah. aku memang cakap thank u x renti2 kat dia. ya Allah,Kau masih sayang aku rupanya?...Thank u Allah. Thank u for returning my purse balik...

aku senyum2 masuk dlm kerete.hubby pon lega.dah tgk aku senyum, die pon cakaplah, sejak dlm kete lagi ms dlm perjalanan kami ke tesco lagi, die nak cakap "padan muka" kat aku sbb ni slh aku, selalu tinggalkan barang, and padan muka dh hilang brg.haha...aku senyum je.memang padan muka aku pon.sape suh jd pelupa?anyway, aku suka sgt sbb Allah masih syg aku,and kembalikan beg tu pd aku.beg tu berharga. mase aku hilang tu, dlm beg tu ade my sony camera, my purse with £70 and my cards. termasuk gambar aku ngan hubby. beg hantaran kawen tu,tu yg aku x sanggup kalau hilang.huhu.Alhamdulillah...syukur ya Allah...

anyway, aku realized sthg...husband aky 'kewl'.hehe...respect aa die. die mmg cool je.aku plak memang cepat gelabah.memang 'song' aa ngan aku...heheh...
